A practical DMV starting point

Planning a hospital
birth in the DMV?
Start with the questions.

Here are regional hospitals and birth centers with published maternity information. Use the official links to confirm current services, who can attend, and whether your care provider delivers there.

Independent planning guide.

Motha Doula is not affiliated with or endorsed by the facilities listed. This directory does not confirm that Tenise Foxx is credentialed, approved, or available at a particular site. Facility rules and service availability can change; verify directly before making plans. A doula provides nonmedical support and does not replace your licensed clinical team.

A useful first call is to your prenatal provider: ask where they have admitting privileges and which facility they expect you to use. Then ask the hospital’s maternity unit about its current doula, visitor, registration, and support-person policies. If you are considering a home birth, talk through the clinical team and transfer plan with your licensed birth-care provider.

For a simple question list you can take to those conversations, try the Your Voice, Your Support check-in or consultation question builder.

DC Health also maintains a licensed maternity centers directory. Its current directory is for maternity centers; it is not a complete directory of hospital labor-and-delivery units.

Maryland near the District

Montgomery, Prince George’s & nearby counties.

Montgomery County’s 2025 Office of Legislative Oversight report lists five hospitals providing labor-and-delivery services in the county: the first five facilities below. For the wider Maryland list, see the state’s Maternal Health Hospital Report Card.

A future Prince George’s County option

Luminis Health says inpatient obstetric services at Doctors Community Medical Center are planned as part of a new Women’s Health Pavilion, with opening expected in late 2028. It is not listed here as an operating maternity unit today. See the health system’s project update ↗.

This regional directory covers principal facilities near the District and nearby Maryland counties, plus several wider-drive options. It is not a statewide Maryland directory. Tenise’s exact county and travel coverage still needs owner confirmation.

Northern Virginia

Facilities serving the wider metro.

Virginia’s Department of Health reports 49 birthing hospitals statewide as of 2025. The facilities above are a local selection, not a statewide list. Use Virginia’s maternal-health data pages for state information and confirm current maternity services directly.

Before you choose

Questions worth asking
before the big day.

For each hospital, check the current official page and call the maternity unit. A doula can help you prepare and remember questions; the hospital and licensed care team answer facility and medical questions.
