A support plan that can move with you
Some Alexandria families plan a birth in the city; others may receive care in nearby D.C. or another Northern Virginia community. Name your planned setting, ask about its current doula and visitor policies, and decide who you want included. If plans change, support can stay focused on your questions and preferences while clinical decisions stay with you and your licensed care team.
Support before, during, and after birth
Before birth, talk through hopes, worries, questions for your provider, and who you want in the room. During labor, doula support can include comfort measures, reassurance, and help communicating your preferences. After birth, ask about postpartum planning and community resources. Discuss the exact scope and availability directly with Tenise.
Birth preferences that leave room for you
Support can fit a home or hospital birth and continue if your preferences change. You can want an unmedicated birth, pain relief, an induction, a cesarean birth, or still be figuring it out. A doula does not provide medical care, make clinical decisions, or promise a specific outcome. Your licensed care team is responsible for medical advice and treatment.
Include the people you choose
Your partner, family member, friend, or another trusted person can be part of the conversation if you want. Ask how a doula will help them feel useful and informed, what comfort ideas you can practice together, and how everyone can keep your voice at the center.
Medicaid and payment questions
Virginia plan benefits and provider rules should be checked directly with your managed care plan. This page does not promise Medicaid payment for Tenise’s services, and her provider participation has not been confirmed. Ask the plan and Tenise about coverage before relying on it. Read the coverage questions guide and Medicaid doula guide.
Questions that come up
Before you reach out
Can I use a doula for a hospital birth in Alexandria?
A doula may provide nonmedical support in a hospital if the facility’s current rules allow it. Ask about visitor limits, doula policies, and any required paperwork. Tenise can confirm her availability for the place and timing.
Can I still choose pain relief or a C-section?
Yes. Doula support can accompany different birth experiences, including medication, induction, or cesarean birth. A doula does not decide what care you receive and cannot promise a particular outcome.
What if I need more help than a doula can provide?
A doula is not a nurse, therapist, or emergency service. Tenise can help you identify questions and connect with community resources, while your licensed care team handles medical concerns. For urgent symptoms, contact your clinician or emergency services.
What to include in a first call or text
It is enough to share your city or county, approximate due month, planned birth setting if you know it, and one question you want answered. You do not need to send medical records, detailed health information, or a polished birth plan by text.
